SERGEANT RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE FOR LIFE SAVING ACTIONS

On October 3, 2017, Sergeant Frederick Rogers of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office was recognized by the United States Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office, in reference to his actions on September 15, 2017 that saved a victim of the Opioid epidemic.

On September 15, 2017, Sergeant Rogers was returning from a training event in Indianapolis, Indiana hosted by the United States Attorney’s Office. While traveling northbound on State Road 29 near the area of State Road 26, Clinton County, Sergeant Rogers came upon a motor vehicle crash where two good Samaritans were assisting an unresponsive male subject from a vehicle which had collided with a guardrail. Sergeant Rogers approached the victim with his Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to assist the subject.

Sergeant Rogers observed the male subject to be unresponsive and observed signs consistent with an overdose. Sergeant Rogers returned to his vehicle to retrieve his issued nasal Narcan which he subsequently administered to the male subject. Sergeant Rogers administered two doses of nasal Narcan which resulted in the male subject becoming responsive prior to the arrival of first responders, EMS personnel or law enforcement.

The male subject was later transported from the scene for further medical treatment and the investigation was conducted by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

The award states Sergeant Rogers’ recognition of the symptoms along with the rapid deployment of Narcan, during an atypical situation where Narcan is not readily available, showed Sergeant Rogers’ dedication to the people of the State of Indiana. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana commend Sergeant Rogers for his tireless efforts in keeping our communities safe.

Sergeant Rogers was presented with this award by Acting United States Attorney, Northern District of Indiana, Clifford D. Johnson and United States Attorney, Southern District of Indiana, Josh Minkler.
