Modesto, CA – Orville Wright Elementary School will join schools from around the country to celebrate National Walk to School Day on October 4, in partnership with Modesto Police Department sending a unified safety message to our community.

Students from Orville Wright Elementary School will be walking and rolling to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Members of Modesto Police Department will also join the walk and/or will be deploying traffic/patrol officers to the neighborhoods near schools to enforcement traffic laws reminding everyone of the importance of pedestrian and bicycle safety this day and every day represents.

Look for walkers along all streets, especially near schools, in the early morning hours. Other special activities associated with the walk include interaction, music and prizes with Safe Kids Stanislaus coalition members and mascots. MMC will present Helmet safety and demonstration. DMC will present pedestrian safety. MPD will present seat belt/good passenger/stranger danger.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between law enforcement, families, schools and the broader community.

The event is being organized by Memorial Medical Center, Doctors Medical Center, California Highway Patrol, Modesto Police Department, FedEx and Safe Kids Stanislaus.
