The Montgomery Police Department requests the motoring public be aware that Wednesday, 10/4/17 , is the annual walk to school day held nationwide.

Montgomery is unique in that its residents attend 5 different school districts. We will have increased pedestrian traffic near all of our elementary schools, of which we have 4 in town.

Nicholson Elementary (located at 649 N. Main St): Students will assemble at the VFW in downtown Montgomery between 7:15 and 7:30 am. They will then start walking to Nicholson, crossing River and Mill St and heading towards the school. Please be aware that traffic at River and Mill will be briefly halted to allow for the safe crossing of all participants.

Krug Elementary (240 Melrose Ave): Students will assemble on the school grounds and begin their journey down Parker Ct, E/B on Parker to Douglas, S/B on Douglas to Melrose, and then W/B on Melrose back to the school.

McDole Elementary: Students will assemble at approximately 8:30 am in the area of Simpson Parkway and Gordon. Busses will be dropping students off on Gordon north of Simpson before they begin their journey eastbound on Simpson towards the school.

Lakewood Creek: Students in this district are mostly walkers and dropped off by parents. School starts at 8:45 and pedestrian traffic is increased between the hours of 8:15 and 8:45 am. Please continue to follow the established drop off rules if you are transporting your children while continuing to be mindful of increased foot traffic.

Be aware of the increased pedestrian traffic on this day due to the national "Walk to School" initiative. Officers will also be in the area monitoring the safety and well being of those participating.
