PUBLIC ADVISORY: Be aware phone scammers calling area, posing as U.S. Marshals and Social Security Administration
The Santa Fe County Sheriff advises that public to be aware of phone callers posing as U.S. Marshals and Social Security employees. These criminals will say that your bank account and social security number have been linked to illegal drug trafficking or drug activity. They may try to convince you that your bank money/assets will be seized or frozen if you do not transfer your money to a designated account they provide. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE. THIS IS A SCAM. Under no circumstance will any law enforcement agency or government agency request money from you over the phone. Hang up if you get a call like this. Never give out your personal information, especially your bank account info or you social security number. If you have received a call like this call 505 428-3720 to report this crime.
