Hunterdon Grand Jury Issues New Indictment Against NJ Correction Officer
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, announced that a Hunterdon County Grand Jury has issued a superseding indictment charging Brian Y. Ambroise, age 34, of Union, NJ, with two counts of 2nd degree Sexual Assault, two counts of 2nd degree Official Misconduct, and one count of Pattern of Official Misconduct. The new indictment was sought after an ongoing investigation revealed another victim was assaulted by the defendant.
Mr. Ambroise was previously arrested on October 6, 2016, and indicted with one count of 2nd degree Official Misconduct and one count of 2nd degree Sexual Assault for one victim. The joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Department of Correction Special Investigations Division revealed that Mr. Ambroise was employed as a Correction Officer when he engaged in a sexual relationship with an inmate at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton Township. Mr. Ambroise has been suspended from his position with the New Jersey Department of Corrections since his arrest. The superseding indictment identifies a second victim.
An indictment is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
