A few days ago, a Facebook post began circulating which warned of "pedophiles" driving around Sumpter Township in a "fake" Goodwill van taking photos of children. The post elicited comments from some calling for anyone seeing the gray van to cause harm to the occupants. That is never an acceptable response, especially based solely on a Facebook post with very limited information. We remind everyone to instead contact their local police department and allow police to respond to those issues normally handled by police. Be a good witness, not a participant.

Our investigation has revealed that the van in question, which is in fact operated by Goodwill Industries, is in Sumpter Township frequently to pick up two special needs individuals and transport them to a workshop program. There is no evidence to show that anyone involved, from the van driver to the two local residents being picked up, have committed any crime, are attempting to commit a crime or are a danger to the community in any way.

Let us repeat that... there is no evidence that anyone involved has committed a crime, are attempting to commit a crime or are a danger to the community in any way.
