On October 9th 2017 at 2:45 am Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call of a person being shot at 4375 E 300 N Fremont. Deputies arrived and discovered Douglas Wayne Richter age 50 of Fremont suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a Fort Wayne Hospital via ambulance where he remains in serious but stable condition. Sheriff’s Detectives immediately responded and a result of their investigation, Heather Michelle Garr, age 34, was taken into custody at her home on Ivy wood Court Angola Indiana. Heather Garr is being held without bond at the Steuben County jail on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. She is expected to have a preliminary court appearance Tuesday October 10th 2017. The case remains under investigation.
Assisting Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies were Angola Police, Fremont Police, Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.

Any criminal charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
