Dear Friends,

Today, the people of Sonoma County faced an unprecedented fire catastrophe. Out-of-control fires ravaged much of Sonoma County, burning over 1,000 residences, hundreds of businesses, and open spaces. Thousands lost their homes, hundreds lost their businesses, and, most sadly, many lost their lives.

While the City of Sebastopol has thus far been spared damage by fire, that did not dampen Sebastopol's awareness of the seriousness of this crisis. Without hesitation, people and businesses stepped in with a charitable heart to help others in need.

Local markets provided food and water at no cost. The Ceres Project cooked hundreds of meals and is planning to cook hundreds more. The Sebastopol Community Cultural Center, Analy High School, Hessel Church, St. Stephen's Church, and the Sebastopol Community Church opened their doors to those seeking shelter and solace. And, most notably, residents donated their time, food, and belongings, opening their homes and their hearts to those in need.

The Sebastopol Police Department was blessed to partner today with so many individuals and businesses who selflessly gave to help others.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to those who have suffered loss as a result of these catastrophic fires.
