Update on Sonoma Valley and City of Sonoma fires
This is an update for the City of Sonoma and Sonoma Valley area as of Monday, October 09, 2017 at 8pm.
The City of Sonoma opened their Emergency Operations Center to support lifesaving, evacuations, and firefighting efforts in Sonoma Valley. The City is coordinating efforts with the Sonoma County Emergency Operations Center.
The Sonoma Valley has several mandatory evacuation areas:
- Kenwood community
- Glen Ellen community
- The area of Madrone Road and Sobre Vista
- Cavedale Road and Trinity Road
- Norrbom Road and Mission Highlands Neighborhood
- Gehricke Road area
- Lovall Valley Road and Wood Valley Road east of Old Winery Road
Sheriff Giordano has ordered all non-authorized people to remain out of all mandatory evacuation area pursuant to penal code 490.5(a). Looting and other crime will not be tolerated. Law enforcement will maintain a heavy presence in evacuated areas to assist people out of the areas and to protect property. All looters will be arrested.
There are several shelters open in the City of Sonoma. The primary shelter is at the Sonoma Valley High School, located at 20000 Broadway in Sonoma. People needing shelter services may report directly to the high school.
People wishing to volunteer should register at the Sonoma Community Center at 276 E. Napa Street. Registration opens at 9am tomorrow morning.
Fire personnel are still actively fighting fires in the Sonoma Valley area and will continue to do so overnight. Additional firefighting resources are expected tomorrow to assist with firefighting efforts.
The City of Sonoma’s Emergency Operations Center will remain open overnight.
