HMPD Arrests Man for Felony Possession of Firearm and Felony Fleeing to Elude.
On Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at approximately 2:00pm, a Hope Mills Police Officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet Cavalier in the area of Rockfish Road and Deaver Circle after the Officer became aware that the license plates on the Cavalier were assigned to another type of vehicle. When the Officer activated his emergency equipment, the driver, later identified as Marcus Anthony Burnett, 30,of the 6300 block of Pine Street, Fayetteville sped away from the Officer’s vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued onto Camden Road, to Natal Drive and then eventually onto West Mountain Drive where Burnett turned onto Bobbie Street and stopped. Upon stopping, Burnett then ran from his vehicle carrying a black bag which he threw away from his person as Hope Mills Police Officers chased him on foot. Burnett was captured by Officers in the 700 block of Veda Street. Officers also recovered the black bag that Burnett had thrown down and found that it contained a pistol. Following his arrest, Burnett was transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held without bond for the following charges:
1 Felony Count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
1 Felony Count of Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest in a Motor Vehicle
1 Misdemeanor Count of Resisting a Police Officer
