The Sebastopol Police and Sebastopol Fire Departments extinguish a small fire in the Laguna Preserve
Today, at approximately 1438 hours, the Sebastopol Police Department received a phone report of a small fire in the Laguna Preserve. The report was made by a concerned community member, who just happened to be in the area at the time.
Sebastopol Police Sergeants David Harston and Joe Furry arrived within seconds, and attempted to keep the fire from spreading using fire extinguishers. The Sebastopol Fire Department arrived shortly after with the city fire fighting apparatus, and quickly extinguished the fire.
The fire occurred along the Laguna Preserve walking trail, just east of the northern baseball field. An area of dry brush and grass approximately twenty feet long and six feet wide burned, and at one point, the flames were almost three feet tall.
The Sebastopol Police Department would like to commend its ever vigilant community members. Were it not for the immediate report of the fire, and the rapid response of the Sebastopol Fire and Police Departments, this small grass fire could have easily spread.
The Sebastopol Fire and Police Departments and found no evidence that this fire was maliciously set, nor were they able to determine the original cause.
The Sebastopol Police Department would like to remind the community to be cautious during this season of high fire danger, especially in areas of dry vegetation, such as the Laguna Preserve.
