Chula Vista Library Holds Spooktacular Halloween Events for Kids

October brings jack-o-lanterns, costume parades and free Halloween fun for children at the three Chula Vista Public Libraries.

Children can create Halloween LED pins in a S.T.E.A.M. event on Wednesday, October 18, at 4:30 p.m., at the Civic Center Branch Library, 365 F Street. “Crafternoon” programs at the Civic Center branch for youngsters include Upcycled Ghost Décor on Tuesday, October 24, at 4:30 p.m.; Popsicle Stick Scarecrow Face on Friday, October 27, at 3 p.m.; and Haunted House Décor on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31, at 4:30 p.m.

The South Chula Vista Branch Library, located at 389 Orange Avenue, will host a Halloween Fun Fest on Tuesday, October 17, at 5 p.m., including a live action story, crafts and giveaways. Two “not so spooky” story times will feature Halloween books and a parade through the library. Halloween Baby Bookworms for ages 0-3 will meet on Tuesday, October 24, at 11:15 a.m.; and children ages 3-5 are invited to a Halloween Ready to Read Story time on Wednesday, October 25, at 11:15 a.m. Children are encouraged to wear costumes to all of these programs.

Five Halloween story times are on tap at the Otay Ranch Branch Library, in the Otay Ranch Town Center, and costumes are encouraged. Staff will hold a Baby “Boo” Storytime for ages 0-3 on Wednesday, October 25, at 11:15 a.m. A “Boo-tastic” Storytime for ages 3-5 will take place on Thursday, October 26, at 11:15 a.m. A Little Pumpkins Evening Story time on Monday, October 30, at 5 p.m. will feature “not-so-spooky” stories for babies. On Halloween morning, Tuesday, October 31, children ages 2-5 are invited to stomp their feet and howl at a “Monster Mash” Move-to-the-Music Story time. The library is also hosting a Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos traditional altar, where patrons of all ages are invited to share an offering, poem or photo of a loved one.
