Gas line testing
CenterPoint Energy is testing the large gas main near the bridge on Chaska Boulevard and Creek Road today (10/18/17). They are working to test the line for leaks using nitrogen and very high pressure. Upon completion of the test, they will need to relieve the pressure by using a muffler and a blow-off. This nitrogen product will cause very little odor, but there may be a loud noise associated with the test.
Assuming all tests pass, they will again work to expel the residual gas tomorrow (10/19/17). As you may recall, this generated several calls last week from residents living near the United Sugars on Stoughton. An odor of gas will be present in that area as they work to purge the line. If you smell gas and feel that an emergency response is necessary, please call 9-1-1.
