Case update: Body found in barrel 
On 10/12/17 Chula Vista Police assisted Harbor Police when human remains were found in a barrel in San Diego Bay. Chula Vista Police detectives assumed primary investigative duties on the case at that time.
After autopsy, the Medical Examiner’s office identified the remains and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Chula Vista Police PD detectives subsequently notified the victim’s family of the death and are actively working the case.
The victim’s family has asked CVPD to convey their request for privacy during this time. Due to the nature of this case, no further details will be made available publicly at this time.
We recognize the public’s interest in this case, however, due to the on-going investigation, it is necessary to keep most details confidential for the immediate future. These needs currently outweigh any public concern.
When disclosure no longer affects the investigation, CVPD will release pertinent details of the case.
