Anderson Police to Trade Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Challenge Coins for Toys.
PIGS FOR PINK
For several years the Anderson Police Department has supported breast cancer awareness during the month of October by decorating our building inside and out and by allowing all employees to wear pink ribbon pins and other pink flare. The support staff are also authorized to wear pink uniform shirts, and the officers wear pink undershirts and use pink handcuffs when making an arrest. This year the Anderson Police Department wants to extend their support of breast cancer awareness and give back to the community by accepting donations of toys in exchange for a special, limited-edition “pink” Anderson Police Department challenge coin.
A challenge coin is a coin or medallion bearing an agency or unit’s insignia and/or emblem. Historically they were presented by the military and more recently their purpose has been adopted by many law enforcement agencies. The coins are given out to prove membership, boost morale, or are presented in recognition of special achievement. Challenge coins are often traded within the law enforcement culture and highly coveted by collectors and those outside our profession.
Beginning Monday, October 23rd through the end of the month, October 31st (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm), we will “trade” one of our awesome Limited-Edition Anderson Police Department Pink Challenge Coins with anyone who brings in a toy to donate to our cause. The toy should be unwrapped with a minimum value of $10.00. The Anderson Police Department will then provide these toys to the Shasta Thrive Manter House and Good News Rescue Mission House of Hope for their Christmas celebrations.
See our Facebook page for pictures of the coins and more details.
