HEBRON MAN HUNTED IN SEX CRIME ARRESTED IN IOWA
October 23, 2017

Following a 10-day manhunt, Esau Ancheyta Hernandez, 26, was apprehended Monday morning hiding under a bed in an apartment in Ames, Iowa, after information developed by investigators in the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office pinpointed his location.

Officers from the U.S. Marshal’s Southern Iowa Fugitive Task Force acted on the information provided by MCSO at about 9:30 a.m., forcing open a locked bedroom door and locating the fugitive under a bed. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Hernandez faces Illinois charges of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X offense, for an incident in Hebron on Oct. 13.

“We expect to see this man face his charges here in the county once the extradition process has concluded,” said McHenry County Sheriff Bill Prim. “We have been at great pains to locate him since the incident occurred.”

Currently being held at the Story County Jail in Iowa, Hernandez, a Mexican national, was previously deported from the U.S. in 2012 after being apprehended in southern California.

In the Hebron incident, deputies responding to a 911 call were told that Hernandez had sexually assaulted a child at that residence and, after being confronted by family members, fled on foot from the scene.

A large multi-jurisdictional search followed, deploying multiple K-9’s, drones, and a helicopter, in the area of Hebron Road and the Illinois/Wisconsin State Line, but Hernandez was not located until Monday.
