DATE: October 27, 2017
SUBJECT: Simulated Emergency Test (SET) for Amateur Radio Emergency
Service (ARES)
Beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, October 28th, Madison County radio amateurs will participate along with their peers across Alabama in an exercise called the Simulated Emergency Test (SET). The scenario for SET will be announced over the air that morning, and simulated emergency communications will be prefaced with “Exercise, Exercise, Exercise.” Amateur radio operators (also known as “hams”) will establish a communications network in support of the Madison County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the National Weather Service, the Red Cross, area hospitals and other local government and volunteer organizations.
The primary goal of the SET is for local hams to quickly and accurately pass voice, text and image information for governmental and volunteer organizations from various locations throughout Madison County. The ARES motto is “When All Else Fails.”
The public will be able to monitor voice transmissions for the SET on 146.94 MHz and 147.22 MHz.
