Advisory

Anderson Police Officers will attempt to grow beards as a fundraiser for childhood cancer awareness.

Beginning today, Wednesday, November 1, 2017, you may see Anderson Police Officers attempting to grow beards! We are participating in the No Shave November campaign with our own crusade called Badges with Beards. No Shave November is a national campaign where people stop shaving for the entire month and then donate the money they would have spent on razors to cancer research and awareness.

The cause behind our event, Badges with Beards, is to support and raise money for childhood cancer research and awareness. A few years ago, the Anderson Police Department adopted “Jerry” into our agency. Jerry is living with Retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer that attacks the eyes and forms tumors that can cause loss of sight in one or both eyes. There are approximately 300 children diagnosed with Retinoblastoma each year in the United States. Jerry lost his right eye two years ago and will continue to battle Retinoblastoma and endure treatments and medical care the rest of his life. We have set up two Section 501(c)(3) tax deductible fundraising links for anyone who would like to donate to our cause.

The first is a direct link to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital subsists on grants, donations, and funds raised by various charitable organizations, and their pediatric patients are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay. Donations through this link will go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help treat children who are battling cancer: http://fundraising.stjude.org/APDbadgeswithbeards.

The second fundraising link will keep your donation local. We Back the Blue Shasta is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and funds raised through this link during the month of November will be used solely for Jerry’s medical expenses: https://www.facebook.com/webacktheblueshasta/ (Click on the “DONATE” tab near the top of the page. If you would like to donate in honor of a specific officer or survivor, please add their name/ID number to the “Add special instructions to the seller:” line as you complete the transaction.

In addition to the online fundraising, we will also have a pizza night at Players Pizza in Anderson on Monday November 20, 2017, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. This event will be co-sponsored by Player’s Pizza and We Back the Blue Shasta, and will also involve the participation of the Anderson Union High School Football Team. Funds raised at this event will be split between our buddy Jerry for use towards his medical expenses and the AUHS football team as they are raising funds to purchase new safety equipment. We will share more details on this event as the date gets closer.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to We Back the Blue Shasta, Signsations, and 104.3 K-SHASTA radio for their continued support and contributions.
