HMPD Implements Narcan Program.

In an effort to save lives in our community, Hope Mills Police Officers have been issued Narcan (Naxalone) nasal spray, an emergency substance that counteracts the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose. Narcan is an effective life-saving tool for our agency as it causes no harm when administered. Narcan works by simply blocking the opioid from the opioid receptors in the brain. The only side effects associated with Narcan are those associated with opioid withdrawal. In most cases, the Narcan will be administered via a nasal atomizer with a pre-loaded dose. Hope Mills Police Officers will administer Narcan to individuals suffering from an apparent opioid overdose if they arrive to an overdose scene prior to Cumberland County EMS.

The Hope Mills Police Department received the Narcan at no cost and, the required training for it’s use from the NC Harm Reduction Coalition. The Fayetteville Police Department also assisted our agency with training and the administrative considerations of it’s implementation.
