Light Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony Event

The Light Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. On this day an influx of vehicle and pedestrian traffic is expected late into the evening. There will also be several street closures approximately one hour prior to and during the parade and lighting ceremony. The streets affected by the closures will be Morton Street, from the Flea Market all the way to North Street, North Street to State Road 5 and State Road 5 to County Road 200 N. Depot, Main and Middlebury Streets will also be closed to traffic during the parade. Harrison Street between Main and Middlebury Streets will be closed all day on Saturday.

Alternate routes will be clearly marked for traffic that will be bypassing the downtown area. The alternate routes include North Village Drive to CR 735 W, CR 250 N, and CR 200 N. (Farver St). Vehicles bypassing the downtown area will also be able to use CR 250 N and CR 200 N to travel east. State Road 5 will be open south of the intersection at CR 200 N as well. Fire lanes will be set up using the alleys in order to facilitate quick emergency response to all areas of the event. No parking will be allowed in the fire lanes and will be strictly enforced.

The Shipshewana Police Department has been working in conjunction with event coordinators, town officials and other law enforcement agencies, to make this event as safe and enjoyable as possible for everyone. As we prepare to kick off the holiday season I want to remind everyone to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Immediately report any suspicious activity to police. Several law enforcement officers from various agencies will be present during this event working hard to keep everyone safe. We are all a part of this community and all of us play a critical role in keeping everyone safe.
