Fatal Traffic Collision Press Release 
On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at about 10:28 a.m., officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a major traffic collision at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Del Amo Boulevard.
During the preliminary investigation, along with witnesses’ accounts, officers discovered a 2004 Chevy SUV was recklessly travelling southbound Hawthorne Boulevard toward the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard at a high rate of speed. The Chevy SUV sideswiped a vehicle prior to losing control and careening over the center divider into northbound lanes. Subsequently, two other vehicles travelling northbound Hawthorne Boulevard collided with the SUV causing it to roll-over resulting in one of the four occupants to be ejected. The driver and a passenger from the SUV immediately fled the scene on foot, while a remaining passenger remained trapped inside the vehicle.
Bystanders rushed in to assist in removing the entrapped passenger prior to emergency personnel arriving to administer first aid; this individual was ultimately transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the individual ejected from the SUV succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The individual has not been positively identified, and the name will be held pending notification to next of kin.
Assisting officers later located the two subjects that fled scene within close proximity.
This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of A/Captain Steven Jenkinson, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
