APD Arrests Burglary Suspect Found Hiding Under Child's Car Seat

On November 16, 2017, at about 01:17 A.M. Officers with the Anderson Police Department were dispatched to the 3500 block of Cazadero Wy. for a report of a possible burglary in progress.
The reporting party indicated that a male was in the backyard of his residence attempting to gain entry through a sliding glass door.

Prior to officers arrival on scene the reporting party stated he believed the suspect may have fled the scene in a truck.

Officers arrived on scene and conducted a search of the backyard of the residence with the assistance of K-9 Aero. Officers found that the suspect in fact had fled the scene.

While searching the backyard of the residence a vigilant neighbor down the street form the original reporting party notified SHASCOM dispatch that a suspicious truck had just pulled in front of their residence.

Officers responded to the second location and located a silver Dodge pickup illegally parked at the corner of Cazadero Wy. and Humbug Dr. Officers approached the pickup and observed muddy foot prints across the front seats, leading to the back seat of the vehicle. Officers then observed Javier Lopez, age 37, of Shasta Lake, attempting to hide in the backseat of the vehicle. Lopez had placed a child's car seat on top of his body in an attempt to avoid detection, however this clearly did not work.

Officers ordered Lopez to exit the vehicle, however Lopez failed to follow their commands. Officers attempted to place Lopez into a control hold for handcuffing, however Lopez continued to resist, attempting to pull his body back into the vehicle.

After a brief struggle Lopez's resistance was overcome and he was secured into handcuffs.

Lopez admitted to being the suspect in the attempted burglary and stated that he came to the residence to collect a debt.

Lopez was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained while resisting arrest. Lopez was then booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of attempted residential burglary and resisting arrest.
