Vehicle crash - 2 Arrested - Vermillion Co Sheriff

What: Automobile Crash - Two Arrested

When/Where: 11/17/2017 @ 3:00pm / ST Rd 63 @ CR 200 N

Details: David Burnside age 20 of Northbrook, IL., was driving Northbound on State Road 63 when a truck entered the roadway in front of him causing a collision. The driver of the truck, Justin Mason 41 of Chenoa, IL., advised that he did not see anyone coming when he pulled into the roadway. During the accident investigation Mason had indicators of intoxication and Mason failed field sobriety tests. Mason was transported to the Vermillion County Jail where he failed certified chemical test (.14% BrAC). Mason was processed into the Vermillion County Jail for Operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury.

An 11 year old juvenile that was in the vehicle was transported to Union Hospital of Clinton and later transferred to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of his injuries. DCS was contacted to assist with the juvenile. Burnside was also transported to Union Hospital of Clinton for his injuries.

Also during the accident investigation, Mason's passenger, William Lacer age 39 of Linton, IN. was found to be wanted on warrant out of Green County, Indiana for 1) Intimidation w/weapon, 2) Battery, 3) Pointing a Firearm. Lacer was also charged locally with possession of methamphetamine, possession of Marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and false informing. Lacer was transported to the Vermillion County Jail for processing.

Mason and Lacer are both held on a $10k bond each (10% allowed). Lacer is also held on the Green County Warrant.

Assisting at the scene of the accident were Deputies Chad Akers and Mike Strader, Cayuga and Newport Fire Department and Vermillion County EMS.
