Advisory

Advisory regarding traffic Issue at Lindenwold High School caused by drivers cutting through parking lot to avoid traffic light

Dear citizens,

The Lindenwold Police Department has become aware of a serious issue regarding motor vehicle traffic around Lindenwold High School and Lindenwold School #4. Many drivers are cutting through the high school parking lot to avoid waiting in traffic when traveling on Gibbsboro Rd. While we understand that it can be frustrating waiting in traffic, we have a duty and responsibility to protect the students, staff, and visitors at the high school during arrival, dismissal, and during after school activities.

It is a violation of N.J.S.A. 39: 4-66.2 to drive on public or private property in order to avoid a traffic signal. See below:

39:4–66.2 Driving on public or private property to avoid a traffic sign or signal 2 points

39:4-66.2. Avoidance of traffic control signal, sign; violations, penalties 1. Except for emergency vehicles and motor vehicles being operated at the direction of a law enforcement officer, no person shall drive a motor vehicle on public property, except public roads or highways, or private property, with or without the permission of the owner, for the purpose of avoiding a traffic control signal or sign.
Any person found guilty of violating the provisions of this act shall be liable for a penalty of not less than $50.00 or more than $200.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days, or both.

At this time, we are asking for the public’s help. Please do not cut through the high school parking lot to avoid the traffic light. Officers will be on location periodically to monitor the situation.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Thomas J. Brennan
Chief of Police
