Debris Collection Event Held on Richardson Bay
On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, the Sausalito Police Department, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Richardson Bay Regional Agency, and Marin County Health and Human Services conducted a Debris Collection Event upon Richardson Bay. The event took place between 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM at three (3) different locations upon Richardson Bay.
The goal of the Debris Collection Event was threefold:
1. For individuals to remove debris from their anchored vessels before winter in order to help prevent debris and hazardous items from falling into the Bay during storms.
2. To assist individuals in making their vessels compliant with City of Sausalito and Richardson Bay Regional Agency nuisance/debris ordinances.
3. To provide a forum for Marin County Health and Human Services to contact individuals from the waterfront and offer, for those that are interested, services which may assist them in obtaining housing.
During the three and a half (3 ½) hour event, a large debris box was filled with various forms of debris (trash, boat equipment, household chemicals, bicycle parts, piano parts, tires, etc.) that were located on vessels throughout Richardson Bay. In addition to the debris collection, eleven (11) people were contacted and offered services by Marin County Health and Human Services. Three (3) of the eleven (11) people requested services.
