Bluffton Police Investigate Late Night Shooting
On Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at approximately 11:04 pm., the Bluffton Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a Bluffton resident who reported that an unknown individual(s) had shot at him while he was driving.
Bluffton Police Officers, assisted by Wells County Sheriff Deputies, responded to the area of Townley and Jersey Streets and made contact with the victim motorist. The motorist explained that he noticed a dark colored passenger car following him near the Main Street bridge area. The vehicle had been tailgating and flashing its bright lights at the motorist. After the motorist turned westbound onto Silver Street from Main Street the suspect vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane of Silver Street and pulled up beside the motorist. At least one person inside the suspect vehicle yelled a threat to the motorist and then fired at least one round from a firearm into the motorist's vehicle. The suspect vehicle then sped away from the area as the motorist dialed 911.
The bullet entered the rear driver's side window and into the headliner. Investigators located a spent shell casing in the roadway in the 200 block of West Silver Street. The motorist was not injured, nor did the police department receive any other calls of similar incidents.
Bluffton Police Officers noticed a vehicle matching the description occupied by more than one individual in the area of South and Midway Streets. Officers performed a high risk traffic stop and briefly detained the occupants until it was determined they had no involvement in the shooting incident.
There are no known suspects or further leads at this time. The Bluffton Police Department is asking that anyone who can provide more information regarding this matter to contact Detective Andrew Ellis at the police station at 260.824.3320.
