Press Release: Attempted Homicide

On 11-22-17 at about 5:20 p.m. the Menlo Park Police Department received a call of a person with abdominal bleeding on the railroad tracks, north of University Ave, in Menlo Park. Officers responded to the scene and located a male subject 150 feet north of University Ave, on the decommissioned railroad tracks, perpendicular to University Ave.

The victim, a Hispanic male in his 30s had been shot several times, but was conscious. He was immediately transported to Stanford Hospital and as of this time is still in surgery in critical condition.

Officers were able to determine from the victim, that he is a transient who lives in the marsh area near the crime scene and that the suspect who shot him may be another transient who lives in the area.

Menlo Park Police, assisted by surrounding police agencies, set up a perimeter around the area. A CHP airship was requested and responded to assist with the search, along with a drone provided by the Menlo Park Fire District. Search teams located several homeless encampments occupied by several subjects. These subjects were all detained, interviewed and eventually released.

The Menlo Park Police Department has lifted the perimeter in the area and is currently processing the crime scene. Several leads into the suspect's identify are also being followed up on.
