Modesto, CA – Each year over 35 million people, in 16,000 communities, participate in National Night Out. On August 3rd, Modesto residents hosted 188 parties where thousands gathered with law enforcement and city personnel to celebrate National Night Out. The NNO event was designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen community-police relationships, and unite communities in the fight against crime.
Last week, the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) notified the Modesto Police Department of its rank for participation in the annual event. Modesto placed first in California and fifth in the nation in Category 2: Areas with 100,000 – 299,000 Population.
In response to the award announcement, Police Chief Galen Carroll said, “It is no surprise that the hard work of our staff and the citizens of Modesto have paid off with a first place award again this year. The safety of our city depends on the relationships we build with the community. Modesto’s National Night Out success this year is a prime example of those relationships in action and we look forward to working together again next year.”
The Department would like to thank ADT, McDonalds, DSN Outdoor, Gallo, Modesto Irrigation District, RING, Modesto Fire Department, American Medical Response, Rank Investigations, Ontel Security, city staff members, elected officials, and many more for their contribution in making the 2017 event a success.
National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. Join the party next year by contacting the Crime Prevention Unit at 209-572-9500.
