Pet health advisory for Redondo Beach due to the discovery of distemper in local wildlife.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has verified the presence of distemper in our local wildlife population. Since September 2017 more than eleven raccoons have been recovered in Redondo Beach that displayed evidence of the disease. This has occurred in both the north and south portions of the City. The Health Department indicates that the disease does not cause illness in people but can kill dogs and other animals. Please refer to the Health Department webpage for information and recommendations regarding this disease which includes vaccinating your pets and keeping food and water indoors.
