APD Arrests Driver After 100 MPH Pursuit
On November 30, 2017, 11:44 PM an Anderson Police Officer was in the area of Highway 273 and Latona Rd. attempting to locate a recently reported stolen vehicle.
A green Honda Accord passed the Officer southbound on Highway 273 at a high rate of speed. The Officer began to attempt to catch up to the vehicle and found the vehicle to be traveling in excess of 100 MPH. The Officer activated his emergency lights and siren, attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated away from the Officer.
An additional Officer was in the area of Highway 273 and Ox Yoke Rd. and intercepted the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop at the red light at Ox Yoke Rd. and Highway 273 and proceeded eastbound on Ox Yoke Rd. The vehicle began crossing into the opposing lanes of traffic as it continued eastbound towards I-5.
The vehicle entered southbound I-5 and continued at speeds of approximately 100 MPH.
The vehicle exited I-5 at North St. where the driver bailed out of the vehicle as it was moving, and ran eastbound across the freeway. The vehicle rolled onto the shoulder of the roadway.
A CHP - Northern Division Air Operations Helicopter was overhead and kept track of the driver as he fled. The helicopter was able to direct Officers to the driver's location as he attempted to hide behind a business on North St.
Officers and K-9 Aero confronted the driver and he was detained without further incident.
The driver was identified as Jason Wrey Blair, age 45, of Redding. Blair was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine.
Blair was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of felony evading a peace officer, evading a peace officer and crossing into the opposing lane of traffic, drug DUI, and resisting arrest.
