Southern California Edison - Possible service interruption due to high winds
Southern California Edison – possible service interruption due to high winds.
The City of Signal Hill has been advised by Southern California Edison (SCE) that due to the extremely dangerous high winds that Southern California is experiencing there may be a need to turn off specific circuits. In making these decisions, SCE takes into account wind speeds higher than historical averages, humidity levels, and other conditions. SCE is concerned that these factors create a public safety concern (i.e. – fire danger). In Signal Hill, the circuit causing concern provides electricity to the areas south of E. Willow Street and east of Orange Avenue to the city limits.
If a circuit is turned off, then it will not be re-energized until wind speeds have been reduced and the circuit has been assessed which may include a physical inspection. If a circuit is turned off at night, it will not be re-energized until daylight hours.
In the event of a power outage, Signal Hill public safety services (Police & Fire) will continue to operate as usual. Residents and businesses can contact the public safety by calling 9-1-1 or (562) 989-7200.
