FIRE IN MONROVIA, CONDITIONS IMPROVING - Evacuation orders lifted for 600-1000 block of Norumbega Drive

FIRE UPDATE (12/9/17, 9:55 p.m.): Good news to report… given the progress that our firefighting crews have made in attacking the fire, we are happy to share that the mandatory evacuation has been lifted for those living in the 600 through 1000 block of Norumbega Drive.

However, please note that a mandatory evacuation continues to be in effect for those living in the 500 block of Norumbega Drive.

The latest information we have from the field is that our firefighters have gotten a hose line laid down around the fire, that the fire continues to stay at around 5 acres in size, and that favorable weather conditions have aided our efforts in getting the fire knocked down.

We continue to have firefighting resources from Monrovia, LA County, and the US Forest Service on scene responding to the situation. Additionally, we have 4 firefighting helicopters coordinating air-drops of phos-check to both put out and stop the advance of the blaze.

The City continues to staff a Level 1 activation of our Emergency Operations Center to coordinate our response to the overall situation, and we have opened up an evacuation center at the Monrovia Community Center (119 West Palm Avenue) where any displaced resident can take shelter. Also of note, any evacuee with pets will be welcome at the Monrovia Community Center, as the City has coordinated with the Pasadena Humane Society for their agency to be on scene with pet related supplies.

Instructions:

To stay up to date on the status of the overall situation here in Monrovia, we encourage everyone to check the City's website www.cityofmonrovia.org. We will continue to post updates as the local fire conditions change.
