Automated License Plate Reader Leads to Arrest of Newark Man for Receiving Stolen Auto
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Roberto Rivera, a 37-year-old Newark resident, when a patrol car’s Automated License Plate Reader alerted them that a stolen car had just passed on Saturday, December 9th, 2017.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from the 3rd Precinct were patrolling the Riverview Public Housing Complex as part of an initiative to increase safety. As the officers passed by a Ford traveling in the opposite direction, the police vehicle’s automated license plate reader alerted them that the vehicle was stolen out of Kearny.
The officers conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested Roberto Rivera without further incident. He is charged with receiving stolen property.
This charge is merely an accusation. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
