Man Sentenced to 8 Years State Prison for Auto Crash that Killed Two Flemington Grandparents
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III, announced the sentencing of Frank E. Cabezas, age 25, of Whitehouse, NJ.
On March 25, 2016, Mr. Cabezas was operating a Ford Explorer traveling south on Rt. 523 in Readington Township when he struck an oncoming Toyota Camry occupied by five family members. Two occupants of the vehicle, Frank Corso, age 79, and his wife, Audrey Corso, age 75, both of Flemington, died in the crash. Gregory Corso, age 43, his daughter, age 10, and his son, age 5, all of Budd Lake, were injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. Mr. Cabezas was arrested and charged with Vehicular Homicide, Assault by Auto and Driving While Under the Influence of Marijuana.
On August 25, 2016, a Hunterdon County Grand Jury indicted Mr. Cabezas for two counts of 2nd degree Vehicular Homicide, one count of 3rd degree Assault by Auto, one count of 3rd degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and two counts of 4th degree Assault by Auto.
On September 29, 2017, Mr. Cabezas pled guilty to two counts of 2nd degree Vehicular Homicide, two counts of 4th degree Assault by Auto, and Driving While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.
On December 12, 2017, the Honorable Angela Borkowski, J.S.C., sentenced Mr. Cabezas to 8 years in state prison. Mr. Cabezas must serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole as per the No Early Release Act. After Mr. Cabezas’ state prison term concludes, he must serve a post incarceration parole period of three years. Mr. Cabezas’ license was suspended for a period of ten years which is to begin after he completes his state prison term.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “Despite Mr. Cabezas’ sentence to 8 years in state prison we recognize that no amount of time the defendant serves will diminish the physical and emotional pain suffered by the victims and the family and friends of Frank and Audrey Corso.”
