Be Aware of Phone Scams – That is NOT your Grandchild

Over the last couple weeks, the Anderson Police Department has received calls from Anderson Area residents who were concerned about phone scams. The particular scam that is going around right now is an older one, but is continually successful so the criminals always go back to it.

The target victim is typically an older adult who would have grandchildren that are adult age. The call is usually someone claiming to be the grandchild or representing the grandchild. Usually they say the grandchild is in jail, in legal trouble or in the hospital and needs money right away.

THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. The crooks may have your name, or your relatives name but it is not real. Ask the scammer for detailed information about your family and you will see that they hang up or stall or try to change the subject.
