A snow event is expected for later today. A total of 1 to 3 inches of snow is anticipated. The timing of the snowfall will create a difficult evening commute. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and allow extra time for their evening commute.
Hazardous Weather Discussion
A coastal system quickly develops close enough to the coast for snow to develop early-midafternoon. While the initial flakes likely melt on treated surfaces, the prior cold and expected intensity of the snow will be enough for all surfaces to cover up soon after starting. Snow continues to fall at a light to moderate intensity through the PM rush (heaviest bands expected to remain south), and then eventually tapers off early this evening. We are expecting skies to clear rather quickly this evening, and with temperatures below freezing, there is a heightened threat of a freeze-up of wet surfaces
Impacts to New Jersey
Due to the timing of this snowfall, caution is needed during the evening commute. Roads may be slippery, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses, and untreated roads, sidewalks and other surfaces. Melted snow may refreeze to create slippery conditions. Limited visibilities may occur during heavier snowfall. Monitor local forecasts for updates.
Community Blood Drive – Saturday
A blood drive is being held at the South Brunswick Community Center on New Road on Saturday. The organizers indicate the Blood Center is in urgent need for type O blood donors. The drive is running from 9am-3pm.
Deans Lane Overnight Closure Next Week
For a third week construction crews will be working during the overnight hours on Deans Lane next week. The closure will be from December 18
th to the 22
nd from 8pm to 6am. Local detours will be set up.
