LASD Santa Drops By Biscailuz Training Center in Sheriff's Helicopter to Present Gifts to AbilityFirst East LA Participants


Santa’s reindeer took the day off on Thursday, December 14, 2017, while our Special Enforcement Bureau and Aero Bureau transported Santa by helicopter to the Eugene W. Biscailuz Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles.  Their mission, to assist Santa in the early delivery of presents to 45 children and young adults as who anxiously awaited on the track field.

For the past 10 years, Sheriff’s deputies from the East Los Angeles Station have assisted Santa in bringing Christmas early to children with disabilities. With help from “AbilityFirst”, an organization who offers programs and services to help children and adults with disabilities, deputies have been able to give back to their local community by creating a winter wonderland where these children were able to wait for Santa’s arrival. 

The event unfolded as Santa was escorted to the field via the Sheriff’s Department Rescue “Air 5” helicopter, landing on the “Tarmac” in front of the kids who played in the simulated snow.

The kids were treated with exclusive access Santa, a tour of Air 5, and one of Special Enforcement Bureau’s armored vehicle’s called “The Bearcat”.

The glow and the excitement on the children’s faces as they received their hand delivered gifts and played under the simulated snow with Santa Clause, was a goal that East Los Angeles Station personnel set out to accomplish.

This program remains a tradition today thanks to the generous toy donations from community, and East Los Angeles Station deputies.  
East Los Angeles Station Captain Chris Perez remarked, “Seeing the joy and excitement in everyone’s eyes is one of the best feelings during the Christmas holiday season.”
