The purpose of this is to document the media notification which precedes the advent of a Sobriety/Driver’s License Checkpoint. To meet legal requirements, this mass media notification is made at least two hours prior to the opening of the proposed checkpoint in the City of San Luis Obispo. The notice is made via email to the media outlets in the San Luis Obispo County Area. Please refer to the list below for further relevant information.

Sobriety checkpoints serve as a proven deterrent with the goal of removing impaired drivers and heightened awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Media attention and publicity is one of the primary components of a Sobriety/Driver’s License Checkpoint program. Please feel free to attend the checkpoint and/or contact this agency with any questions or for a public safety statement.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided to San Luis Obispo Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1’.
