Advisory

Please contact the Police Department for removal of sick wild animals, i.e Raccoons and Opossum.

North Porter County Communities and Ogden Dunes have seen an influx of sick Raccoons and Opossum this season. Most are infected with Distemper which can be transmitted to domesticated animals. Generally if you see a Racoon or Opossum in the daylight and/or they do not run from you when approached they are infected. The infected animals may also seem very disorientated, walking in circles and will not show fear of humans.

If your pets are not vaccinated for Distemper we highly recommend you do so.

In the last month Ogden Dunes Police have responded to several calls concerning sick Raccoons inside town. During business hours Ogden Dunes Residents can call Town Hall for assistance with the animal. An Officer and the Street Department will respond for removal.
