SUMMARY:
On December 17, 2017, at approximately 9:33 pm, deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence in the 34000 block of Birch Road in Lenwood for a report of a subject who had been hit with an axe.

Two victims, Rachelle and Joshua Mead, were found on the property suffering from head wounds. The victims identified the suspect to be Jeffrey Daniels and advised he had struck them with an axe after an argument regarding his illegal drug use. An additional victim, Steven Burdett, disarmed Daniels and stopped him from continuing to hit the victims with the axe. Daniels retrieved a metal pipe from outside and re-entered the residence to continue striking the victims with the metal pipe. Burdett again attempted to stop Daniels and suffered several injuries to his wrist and hand in the process.

As deputies arrived on scene, Daniels fled from the location on foot with the axe in his hand. Deputies chased Daniels for approximately one mile before he was taken into custody. The axe was not located on his person at the time he was detained. Deputy J. Moyer responded to the location with his K9, Ellie, to assist in locating it. Deputy Moyer and Ellie were able to track the route Daniels ran and found the bloodied axe nearby in a dirt field.

All three victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Daniels was booked into High Desert Detention Center for attempted murder. His bail is set at $1,000,000.00. Daniels is currently on parole for recent weapons violations.
