Your WCPD wishes you a safe New Year’s Eve
The West Covina Police Department understands that people want to celebrate the upcoming New Year’s Eve, but there are ways NOT to do it.
Here are some reminders for you to consider while celebrating. Keep in mind that everyone’s safety is of the utmost concern, and your safety is the goal of the WCPD.
1. DUI – certainly one of the most important factors to consider while celebrating. Driving under the influence not only puts you and those in your vehicle in danger, it puts those around you in danger as well. If you decide to drink alcoholic beverages, preselect a designated driver or call on a taxi or one of the other driver-partner services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) to get you and your loved ones home safe. Also, in West Covina and some surrounding cities, Royal Coaches Towing is offering a free lift home for those impaired drivers and their cars. Their number is (626) 960-1824.
While driving, if you spot someone you suspect is driving impaired, safely call 9-1-1.
2. Fireworks – all fireworks in West Covina are illegal. This includes “Safe and Sane” as well as “dangerous” fireworks. Keep in mind that fireworks can start fires like the ones California has been devastated with recently.
3. Firearms – Shooting any firearm into the air is not only illegal, it is extremely dangerous. What goes up will certainly come back down, often injuring innocent people in the bullet’s path.
See Something, Say Something. A very good motto to follow. We encourage everyone to do their part in keeping our neighborhoods safe.
The West Covina Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable New Year's Eve.
