Felon With Firearm Asks APD For Directions to Drug Deal

On January 2, 2018, at about 1:45 AM two Anderson Police Officers were stopped in the area of North St. and Church St. when they observed a black BMW traveling eastbound on North St. towards them.

As the BMW got closer to their location the vehicle pulled to the right shoulder and parked directly in front of a fire hydrant and a red painted curb.

The driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle and approached the officers patrol vehicles.

The officers contacted the driver, Chris Meng LEE, age 40, of Redding, and asked how they could help him. LEE asked the officers for directions to a mobile home park in the area of two streets that don't intersect.

The officers felt LEE's behavior was suspicious and asked LEE for consent to search his vehicle, which he provided.

A search of LEE's vehicle revealed a loaded firearm in the driver's door pocket, and approximately 1 1/2 lbs. of marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle.

LEE then consented to a search of his cell phone which revealed text messages that showed he was on his way to sell the marijuana and had apparently gotten lost while en route.

A records check revealed LEE to be a convicted felon, thereby prohibiting him from possessing the firearm or the live ammo.
LEE was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of marijuana for sales, and driving without a valid driver's license. LEE was booked into the Shasta County Jail on the above listed charges.

It should be noted that our officers are always willing to assist the motoring public with directions when they get lost, however we would encourage the public not to illegally park their vehicles and approach our officers in their parked vehicles. Especially while illegally possessing loaded firearms and drugs.
