Snow Emergency Streets Enforced throughout the duration of the storm!

In an effort to clarify a misconception, a Snow Emergency is not the same as observing street cleaning. When the plows pass a designated Snow Emergency Roadway, you cannot park your vehicle back on the roadway. Our Public Works officials are working diligently to clear the roads, please comply with this ordinance.

Garbage & Recycling routes have been canceled for the remainder of today. Please observe your next scheduled pick up day.

Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 0100 hours on January 5th.

Snow will move into the area overnight and continue through tomorrow afternoon. Total snow accumulation is expected to be 3 - 6 inches. There is some forecast uncertainty in regards to the track of the storm. A westward shift of just 30 miles could result in 6 – 8 inches, a shift to the East of 30 miles could only leave us with 1 – 3 inches. North of Route 4 and West of the Parkway will see less snow, while South of Route 4 and East of the Parkway will see more snow.

Temperatures will drop sharply tomorrow evening and remain in the single digits with wind-chill temperatures below zero through Sunday.

Winds will be 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 35 MPH. This will cause blowing and drifting snow.

There is NO PARKING when Roads are Snow Covered on the following Lyndhurst Streets-Entire Length & Both sides unless otherwise noted. Lyndhurst Twp. Ordinance # 7-19a

Fern Avenue - Between Stuyvesant Avenue and
Livingston Avenue - South side only. / Between Weart Avenue and
Grant Avenue – Both sides
Fifth Street - From Summer Avenue to a point 317 feet south thereof – East side only.
Forest Avenue - Between Grant Avenue and Weart Avenue – Both sides
Freeman Street - Between Castle Terrace and the northeast terminus - North side only.
Grant Avenue - Between Fern Avenue and Forest Avenue Both sides.
Park Avenue
Kingsland Avenue -Ridge Road to Riverside Avenue
Livingston Avenue - Between Second Avenue and Lake Avenue – East side only.

Second Avenue is restricted to both sides between Orient Way and Stuyvesant Avenue.

Vehicles are not to be parked on school property.

Vehicles that are not removed can be issued summonses and/or towed away by the discretion of the Lyndhurst Police Department at the owner’s expense!

No shoveling/plowing/blowing of snow on to roadways.

Residents much shovel snow and ice from sidewalks within 48 hours of the end of a snow/ice storm. Lyndhurst Twp. Ordinance # 13-5.8a

Fire Hydrants abutting residences and businesses must be cleared of snow and ice by the property owner . Lyndhurst Twp. Ord. # 11-1.4a


Additionally, residents are reminded that in times of power loss not to use their ovens or any auxiliary heating unit which emits carbon monoxide. Such methods of auxiliary heating are also a serious fire hazard. Keep all generators in a well ventilated area. Do not utilize propane heaters indoors, and only use indoor space heaters with CAUTION.

Help your elderly neighbors / family members with snow and ice removal, and keep a check on them periodically.

During freezing temperatures roadways will become icy, drive safely. If it is not completely necessary, avoid traveling on the roadways.

When outside dress in layers to prevent cold weather related injuries.

Bring animals indoors during storms & cold weather, if you are cold, so are they!
