VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS WEEKEND - Homeless Outreach Activities

The City of Detroit, in partnership with homeless service providers and the faith-based community, will provide outreach to homeless individuals and families this weekend as temperatures drop to dangerous lows. We are seeking willing volunteers to join in our efforts and assist with outreach activities.

Here are the details for this weekend:
Starting Friday, January 5th from 6:00 p.m., volunteers will be dispatched from the below location to conduct canvassing in known areas where homeless individuals tend to travel.

Volunteers are encouraged to patrol during (2) shifts: 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. to Midnight.

Please ask your teams to arrive 15 mins before their selected shifts.
Dispatch Location:
Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries "Hall"
138 Stimson (Between Woodward Ave. & Cass off Mack/MLK)
Detroit, 48201

Volunteers are encouraged to ride in teams.
Volunteers are asked to do the following:
1) Canvass areas identifying homeless individuals who may need services and/or warming materials. Volunteers are not asked to search vacant homes or buildings, but to look for individuals who maybe walking the streets, standing at bus stops or sitting on steps of building on main streets.

Volunteers will be provided a package once they check in at the dispatch site. Each package will provide a map which will show areas where homeless individuals travel, and flyers to hand out. Flyers will provide a contact number of Warming Centers and transportation for pick-up and/or emergency placement assistance.

2) Volunteers will hand out flyers with detailed information to stores, gas stations, barber shops and beauty salons to encourage them to contact the number if they see or know of anyone who needs services.

Again, we are canvassing this Friday, Saturday and Sunday same time each day from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.

If you are interested and available to volunteer for any shift on any day, please contact Terra DeFoe at 313.520.1088 or [email protected] .

Thank you in advance for your support and may God bless your efforts
