Special Weather Statement
..Light Freezing Rain and Snow Sunday Night and Monday Morning
Likely to Cause Travel Problems...
A storm system will track through the Ohio Valley late Sunday into Monday bringing a wintry mix of precipitation to central Indiana. Precipitation will begin as light snow late Sunday afternoon and evening before transitioning to a freezing rain and snow mix Sunday night and early Monday as low level temperatures warm.
The recent stretch of bitterly cold air over the last two week has
left ground and road temperatures frigid. Even if air temperatures warm to near or above freezing Sunday night and Monday with rain as the primary precipitation type...the water will freeze immediately on exposed surfaces...making them icy and hazardous.
The Monday morning commute will likely be impacted. The greatest threat of freezing rain will be from midnight Sunday night through mid morning Monday. In addition...light snow accumulations are possible Sunday night...mainly over northern portions of central Indiana.
People should prepare for the possibility of winter weather Sunday night through Monday. Stay updated to the latest forecasts as slight changes in temperatures can have a significant impact to precipitation type and amounts.
