WINTER WEATHER TONIGHT: Snow, Sleet, and Freezing Rain. Accumulations of about an inch are expected.
A light wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected across most of the area this afternoon and evening. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect this afternoon for areas where freezing rain is expected.
Expected Weather: Light snow, sleet and freezing rain. Snow/sleet accumulations are less than 1-inch. Ice accumulations are less than 0.10-inch.
Locations affected: Light accumulations of snow/sleet along especially north and west of the I-95 corridor, with light icing along the I-95 corridor and areas to the south and east. Please refer to the attached maps.
Timing: Wintry precipitation is forecast to start from west to east this afternoon and end from west to east this evening. This timing coincides with the evening commute. Please refer to the attached onset graphic.
Impacts: Slippery travel will occur along and north of I-78 where a snow/sleet mix is expected. The potential for more significant travel impacts (including considerable delays during the evening commute) exist farther south where freezing rain develops. The very cold ground will allow for ice to quickly accrete on untreated surfaces.
Confidence on occurrence: High regarding freezing rain occurring in the advisory area, however there is some uncertainty regarding the onset time.
With temperatures below freezing tonight, icy spots will persist after the precipitation ends through Tuesday morning.
