Three Suspects Arrested in Sunday Morning Shooting Incident

Late Sunday night three suspects were taken into custody and arrested on charges of attempted homicide behind the shooting that occurred earlier in the day on Summit Drive.

During the initial hours of the investigation, officers gathered several pieces of evidence left behind by the suspects at the scene.   The evidence led officers to the area of Grant Street and Almaden Ave in San Jose, where they located and detained several subjects at a homeless encampment.  After receiving judicial approval for an encampment search, two tents were contained and a search warrant service was executed.  At the conclusion of the search, three suspects were detained and brought to the Fremont Police Department for further questioning.

At the conclusion of the interviews, the following suspects were booked at the Fremont Jail and are currently being held without bail:

Sugey Garcia (20 year old female, San Jose resident) – PC A187 Attempt Murder, PC 12022.53 Using a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, PC 211 Robbery, and VC 10851 Vehicle Theft.

Jennifer Cabrera (18 year old female) – PC  A187 Attempt Murder, PC 12022.53 Using a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, PC 211 Robbery, and VC 10851 Vehicle Theft.

Alfredo Carabes (24 year old male, shooting suspect ) – PC A187 Attempt Murder, PC 12022.53 Using a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, PC 211 Robbery, and VC 10851 Vehicle Theft.

Upon further investigation of the incident it was learned that a fourth outstanding suspect took off on foot prior to the shooting after being confronted by the victims while he was burglarizing the vehicle. Detectives are still in the process of trying to identify and locate the fourth suspect.   Detectives feel confident the shooting suspect is in custody.

One victim, a 45 year old Fremont resident, was treated and released from the hospital on Sunday morning.  The second victim, a 47 year old Fremont resident, remains hospitalized where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.

We’d like to thank the San Jose Police Department for their assistance while we were in their City Sunday.

The suspects are scheduled for arraignment at the Fremont Hall of Justice on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
