Afternoon Update: City of Burbank Hillside Burn Areas, Evacuation Information
BURBANK, CA (January 9, 2018) – The following is a storm update as of 4:00 P.M.
Evacuations: The mandatory evacuation for Country Club Drive is still in effect. This includes all residences east of Via Montana. This afternoon, after mandatory evacuations began, twelve Burbank firefighters encountered heavy mud flow caused by debris topping Deer Canyon and Sunset Basins, blocking access and requiring firefighters and residents to shelter in place. They will continue sheltering in place until access is restored.
Voluntary evacuation warnings for hillside burn areas in the City of Burbank are set to expire at 6:00 P.M. today. These voluntary evacuation warnings are as follows:
>> All of Hamline Place
>> 925-1030 Groton Drive
>> 830-849 Stephen Rd
>> 907-936 Irving Dr
>> 2906 & 2934 Olney Place
>> 2934 Remy Place
>> 2949 Mystic View Place
>> 3430-3436 Brace Canyon Rd
>> 3301-3310 Brookshire Court
>> 3318, 3321 & 3322, 3422 Wedgewood Court
>> 3514-3519 Folkstone Court
>> 3529-3530 Castleman Ln
An evacuation shelter is available at McCambridge Recreation Center (1515 N Glenoaks Blvd). Residents are advised to bring their own animal crates if they’re bringing pets, as crates are extremely limited. Red Cross volunteers and Burbank Parks and Recreation staff are manning the shelter.
Street Closures: Country Club Drive at Via Montana remains closed.
Residents are also warned to avoid these areas:
Walnut Avenue at Sunset Canyon
Harvard Road at Sunset Canyon
The Stough Nature Center
The Wildwood Canyon Recreation Area
Castaway Restaurant and DeBell Golf are closed until further notice
Utilities: Homes located on County Club Drive do not currently have utility services. Southern California Gas Company has confirmed a three-quarter-inch gas leak to a service line on Country Club Drive caused by the storms. Burbank Water and Power crews will return as soon as access is available.
Residents are advised that if they do not evacuate, public safety services may not be able to reach them in an emergency due to impassable roads. If you see significant mud, debris or fast-flowing water, do not try to cross it or drive a vehicle through it, shelter in place or avoid for your safety.
