North Aurora, IL – The North Aurora Police Department, as part of its community policing program, is offering a Citizens Police Academy, an educational program designed to build a better understanding between citizens and police.

The course will be an informative overview of the fundamentals of police work and will be taught by North Aurora Police officers representing various areas of expertise within our organization.  Course topics will cover various aspects of police work and existing police knowledge, including:

• Traffic law
• Investigations/Evidence
• Criminal law
• Use of Force
• Driving under the influence

Also planned for this session, participants will have an opportunity to experience simulated traffic stop training and simulated firearms training exercises.

The program is designed to forge a stronger partnership between citizens and the police department and ultimately assist in the reduction of crime through deeper community participation in community policing.

Classes begin on Wednesday, February 21^st and will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.  There will be 10 classes and the last class will be held on April 25^th.   Participants must be 18 years old and either live or work in North Aurora.
