A pedestrian died from his injuries in a workplace related traffic collision that occurred Wednesday evening.
On January 10, 2018, at about 7:59 p.m., Fremont Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a tractor trailer in the 5900 block of Stewart Ave that occurred in a private property parking lot. Both departments immediately responded. Unfortunately the 30 year old pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Through the investigation, officers learned that a 30 year old driver was backing a company tractor and trailer towards a loading dock and was being guided by a 30 year old male employee who was standing behind the vehicle. The driver finished backing up to the loading dock and unhooked the trailer. Approximately 15 minutes later the pedestrian was found unresponsive by the driver pinned between the end of the dock and the parked trailer. The trailer was reconnected to the tractor and moved to free the pedestrian.
Drugs and alcohol are not factors in this collision. The Alameda County Coroner responded and took custody of the pedestrian. Cal OSHA was notified. Fremont Police Traffic Officers are investigating this as a vehicle vs. pedestrian fatal collision. This is Fremont’s first fatal traffic collision reported in 2018.
